“Chele” Michael Conway, founder and managing director of The Quayside Group

Michael has an impressive history of working with major retail businesses . His first senior role was at Puma, where at the age of just 24 he became Senior Product Manager making him responsible for product design and sourcing for the leading sportswear brand in the UK. After leaving Puma, Michael joined Coats Viyella which was at the time one of the world’s largest textile companies. Here he rose to the position of sourcing director for their schoolwear division Trutex, becoming one of the youngest directors in the Coats Viyella group.
Michael established The Quayside Group in 1995 as a clothing import and sourcing company supplying high street retailers. Michael successes including building a customer base to include the likes of Next, House of Fraser, Russell Athletic and Mothercare. In 2005 the business moved into ecommerce.
Today, The Quayside Group is a market leading supplier of clothing for workwear, promotions and events through its websites clothes2order.com, polo-shirts.co.uk and safclothing.com. Michael’s efforts were recognised in 2009 when the company was selected as a finalist for ‘SMB of the Year’ in the National Business Awards. Michael was also a finalist for the ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ award.
In addition to running The Quayside Group, Michael is a UK board member of the Entrepreneurs’ Organisation (EO), a dynamic, global network of more than 7,300 business owners in 42 countries. He is also a mentor on entrepreneurship to MBA students at The London Business School, where he is on hand to offer practical advice to students.
